The SNUE Graduate School of Education is a pivotal program in elementary education in Korea. The school offers 26 different majors to foster expertise in various fields, which allow in-depth studies in elementary education. We give current in-service teachers opportunities for continuing education, and expand their knowledge and practices in teaching.

Major in Elementary Ethics and Character Education (master’s and doctorate)

Elementary ethics and moral subject plays a very important role in ethics and moral education and personal character development in elementary schools. The purpose is to train teachers who have a professional competency to teach an ethics and moral subject and researchers capable of conducting academic researches in the field.

Major in Elementary Korean Language Education (master’s and doctorate)

The purpose is to develop top-notch Korean language professionals who will contribute to constructing the foundation for nurturing children's awareness in their mother tongue and an ability to critically think and acquire the foundation for learning Korean culture and strengthen the future of the Korean language education.

Major in Elementary Social Studies Education (master’s and doctorate)

The purpose is to develop professionals of elementary social studies education in both theory and practice and the graduates will have the competency to operate a field-friendly social subject in order to design activities as cooperative staff of colleges and as professionals of research institutions and governments.

Major in Elementary Mathematics Education (master’s and doctorate)

The purpose is to develop practical professionals who are fluent in the theories in the field of elementary mathematics education, as well as excellent elementary mathematics education professionals to play a pivotal role in elementary mathematics education.

Major in Elementary Science Education (master’s and doctorate)

Basic science education is necessary in the times of knowledge informatization and integrated science. The purpose is to support such a temporal flow and establish an academic identity of elementary science education by cultivating elementary science education professionals equipped with practical capabilities.

Major in Elementary Physical Education (master’s and doctorate)

Theories and practice of elementary physical education are presented for discussion and the purpose is to improve professional teaching competencies to connect professional knowledge on elementary physical education courses with effective teaching skills and elementary physical education and to contribute to formulating a research atmosphere to improve physical education classes in the field.

Major in Elementary Music Education (master’s and doctorate)

The program provides research courses for practical ability, musical theories, and various educational theories equivalent to professional music education and the graduates will have practical teaching competencies through workshops and field researches.

Major in Elementary Fine Arts Education (master’s and doctorate)

The purpose is to develop professionals to design and educate fine arts education programs for fostering harmonized mindsets and creativity by seeking a balanced development of visual perception through producing and appreciating art works, while supplying students with the opportunities for self-ex-pression.

Major in Elementary Science & Technology Education for Life (master’s)

The purpose is to develop professionals in the field of integrated Science and Technology Education for Life including advanced living science such as food, clothing, housing, as well as consumer life needed for scientific and routine everyday life, engineering, environment, agriculture and career development.

Major in Elementary English Education (master’s and doctorate)

The purpose is to develop excellent elementary English education professionals equipped with competencies in pursuing academic researches and the practice of field education, and graduates will obtain competencies of application in actual classes including overall knowledge on elementary English education, such as practical teaching skills, etc.

Major in Elementary Computer Education (master’s)

The purpose is to develop education professionals equipped with competencies for field practice in elementary computer education, and students will learn the basic theories of computer science, computer training, theories and utilization methods of various knowledge informatization elements.

Major in Liberal Education and Curriculum (master’s)

The purpose is to improve theoretical understanding of and practical competency for elementary education courses and classes and various lectures such as historical and philosophical foundation of elementary education, theories of elementary education courses, and researches on the elementary education field, etc. are provided.

Major in Elementary Education Administration (master’s)

As the demand for reasonable education administration and education management is gradually increased for the qualitative improvement of elementary education, the program is intended to develop elementary education professionals equipped with theories, practice, and research competency in education administration and education management areas.

Major in Early Childhood Education (master’s)

Temporal demand for cultivation of professionals is being increased for dedication, researches, and practice in the early childhood education field that is the first step of school education. Therefore, the program is intended to develop in-depth early childhood education professionals through academic researches on the theories and practice of early childhood education linked with elementary education.

Major in Educational Psychology (master’s)

The purposes are to improve theoretical exploration competency and practical competency for elementary educational psychology by conducting researches on the human mind and learners, and prepare the foundation of overall teaching and learning performances of elementary education through such an improvement.

Major in Counseling Education (master’s)

Students will seek the theories and methods of counseling and life guidance closely related to the field of elementary school education and will obtain the competency to build counseling skills and programs and efficiently apply such skills in order to promote development of and problem solving ability of elementary school students.

Major in Elementary Special Education (master’s)

The program is intended to provide lectures on the properties of and educational methods for children with learning or intellectual disabilities, emotional or behavioral disorders, or developmental disabilities and to develop education professionals and leaders to show their practical and theoretical competencies in special education through cooperation with field professionals.

Major in Early Childhood Special Education (master’s)

It is an in-depth major for field professionals of early childhood and special education fields requiring professionalism in early childhood special education. Students will seek knowledge and actual depth of both early childhood education and special education fields, and will improve their competency as education researchers.

Major in Unification, Peace, and Citizen Education (master’s)

The purpose is to develop education professionals and research manpower equipped with in-depth knowledge on, vision of, and top-notch teaching competency for unification and inter-Korean relations. For this, various lectures on principles of unification education, comparative studies on North and South Korea, unification policy, and national security, etc. are provided.

Major in Environment and Sustainable Development Education (master’s)

Students will learn about teaching principles and skills of environment education and improve their environmental knowledge for active participation in solving environmental issues in order to foster elementary students, who will be the leaders and contributors of society in the future, as democratic-minded citizens actively taking roles in environmental issues.

Major in Global Education (master’s)

Students will improve their competencies for field-friendly operations in terms of theories and practice in global social & cultural education fields, while graduates will obtain the foundation to act for classes and scholarship in a corresponding field, as cooperative staff of colleges, and as professionals of governments and research institutions.

Major in Creative Invention and Integrated Science Education (master’s)

It is the first graduate school course for invention education in Korea to develop professionals of the invention education field and creativity guidance and lectures on basics of invention education including invention education theory and specialized invention lecture series are provided in relation to energy, materials, engineering, universe, and the Patent Act, etc.

Major in Gifted Education (master’s)

The purpose is to develop professional manpower for elementary gifted education by understanding the contents and properties of gifted education courses in fields such as mathematics, science, and information, etc. based on the theories of elementary gifted education, and by improving competencies to teach the gifted in each field and develop learning programs.

Major in Multicultural Education (master’s)

The purpose of multicultural education major is to cultivate theoretical and practical professionals in multicultural education by seeking the theories of philosophy, goals, contents, and methods of multicultural education and providing educational opportunities on multicultural sensitivity and effective multicultural teaching & learning methods.

Major in Drama Education (master’s)

The major in theater-oriented education is the first professional master’s program of theater-oriented education in Korea and the only strict educational course to confer a master's degree through a master's thesis review. The purpose is to understand, research, and practice various possibilities of theater-oriented education and the value of fun education for ages ranging from children to adults based on educational philosophy focused on the art of theater and participants.

Major in Museum and Gallery Education (master’s)

The purpose is to develop professional educators to play a pivotal role in qualitative improvement of museum and gallery education in elementary schools by developing museum and gallery education programs linked with schools and improving professional teaching competencies.

Major in TESOL (master’s)

Theories and practice of English education applicable to the ages ranging from kindergarteners up to secondary students are presented for discussion and foreign language teaching methods and opportunities for advanced fluency in the English language are provided by professional native-speaking professors’ lectures and lectures delivered in English.

Major in Children's Literature・Reading and Writing Education (master’s)

The purpose of the major is to train researchers and educational professionals equipped with competencies for both theories and practice of children's literature, reading and essay writing in order to contribute to qualified children's literature and reading and writing education in schools and society.

Major in Artificial Intelligence Humanity Convergence Education (master’s)

The purpose of the major is to provide various humanities courses along with artificial intelligence technology courses to improve graduate students' academic ability and to help them excel in artificial intelligence-related classes at school.

Major in Educational Psychology, Counseling, and Special Education (doctorate)

It is an in-depth educational program to address recent situations of schools in relation to school violence, delinquency, and increase in those with special education needs, and the purpose is to improve school psychology and counseling, theoretical understanding of overall special education, and practical competencies thereof.

Major in Educational Policy and Leadership (doctorate)

As it has been pointed out that professional competencies are required for holistic education in proportion to the demand for responsibility of education in elementary schools, it is intended to develop policy-oriented, administrative, and educational course professionals for early-childhood education and elementary education fields.

Major in Elementary Science and Technology Education for Life and Computer Education (doctorate)

The purpose is to develop professionals of elementary science and technology education for life and computer education by studying basic theories and sciences in this field and seeking the teaching and evaluation methodologies for prompt application of such knowledge in elementary school education.
